Abandoned and hidden cemetery on the land of the former Mountain
Breeze House. The land was owned by Abram Longyear prior to the
establishment of the Mountain Breeze House, later The Brewster, now
housing for staff at the Catskill Corners businesses.
There is room for about 2-3 dozen tombstones, but only nine exist. There
are a number of blank footstones without headstones. The ground is soft
and they could of sunk.
To get to the cemetery, go north out of the old kitchen of the Mountain
Breeze until you get to the corner of the lawn. Then proceed through the
woods east by north east until you can spot the few upright stones among
the fallen branches and mounds of poison ivy vines. On a visit in May
2011, the trees under the power lines have been clear cut, the cemetery is
now close to the edge of the woods.
The Family Bible of Abram J. Longyear is transcribed and scanned on the
site www.chaseyourtale.com and is in possession of the family.
The survey was conducted on May 22, 2011 by Adrian & Leslie Brisee.
