William Coats Family Bible
William Coats (1741-1802)

Holy Bible in English.  Dublin 1754.

It contains the records of the Coats and Butler families of Philadelphia and is
now owned by Mrs. Alice Lyman, who has deposited it for safe keeping in the
Pennsylvania Historical Society.  The records have been verified by Ernest
Spofford, Esq., Librarian of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania.

Philadelphia

William Coats was born the thirteenth Day of May at one OClock in the
Afternoon in the year of our Lord 1741.  Departed this life 28 Ap'l 1802 at a
quarter past six A.M.

Margaret Norris was born the twenty-third Day of February (being Thursday) in
the year of our Lord 1743 and was married to William Coats on Saturday the
10th day of January 1761.  Departed this life th15 of January 1828 at 12
OClock at night.

Joseph Coats the Son of William and Margaret Coats was born on the 21st
Day of February being Sunday at forty-five Minutes after one OClock in the
Morning in the year of our Lord 1762.

Elizabeth Coats the Daughter of William and Margaret Coats was born the 6th
Day of February being Monday at four OClock in the Morning in the year of our
Lord 1764.  Departed this life Feby the 5th 1824.

William Pitt Coats the Son of William and Margaret Coats was born the 24th
Day of March being on Monday at three OClock in the afternoon in the year of
our Lord 1766.

Margaret Coats the Daughter of William and Margaret Coats was born in New
Jersey the 23d day of September being on Friday at fifty-nine minutes after
nine oClock at night in the year of our Lord 1768.

Margaret Coats the Daughter of William and Margaret Coats departed this Life
on the 3d Day of December 1769 on Sunday Morning at half past four o'Clock
aged Eleven Months and two weeks. -

Mary Coats the Daughter of William and Margaret Coats was born in
Philadelphia on Saturday the 29th August at twenty  Minutes after four
o'Clock in the Afternoon in the Year of our Lord 1772 and Departed this Life
aged one Month.

Joseph Coats departed this Life June 13. 1774 on Monday a little after twelve
oClock aged twelve Years three months and twenty-three days.

William Pitt Coats departed this Life June 28. 1774 on Tuesday about Seven
oClock in the Evening aged eight Years three Months and four days.

Margaret Coats (the second) Daughter of William and Margaret Coats was
born August the 11th friday at ten Minutes after ten OClock at night in the
Year of our Lord 1775 and departed this Life aged three weeks.

Sarah Coats Daughter of William and Margaret Coats was born the 15 decem'r
on Sunday at fifteen Minutes after two OClock in the afternoon in the Year of
our Lord 1776: Died 5 P.M. January 27. 1854.

Harriet Coats Daughter of William and Margaret Coats was born on friday the
5th day of March at fifty Minutes after Eleven oClock in the Morning in the
year of our Lord 1779.

Elizabeth Coats Daughter of William & Margaret Coats was married to
Anthony Butler on the 20th Day of April in the year of our Lord 1780.

Harriet Coats Daughter of William & Margaret Coats died on Saturday the 27
January 1781 -- Aged one year ten months & 22 Days.--

William Coats Butler was born the first day of february (on thursday at half
after twelve oClock in the Morning) in the year of our Lord 1781 he being the
Son of Anthony & Elizabeth Butler.  And departed this life October 1st 1827

William Louis Coats Son of William & Margaret Coats was born on Sunday the
3rd March at three o'Clock in the Afternoon in the Year of our Lord 1782.

William Louis Coats son of William & Margaret Coats Departed this Life in
September 1783 about six months old.

Margaret Butler Daughter of Anthony & Elizabeth Butler was born 28th of
September 1782.

Thomas Coats son of William & Margaret Coats was Born on thursday at
Eleven oClock in the morning the fourteenth Day of August in the year of Our
Lord 1783.

Penelope Butler Daughter of Anthony and Elizabeth Butler was born on the 3d
of March anno Domini 1785.  Departed this life July 25th 1823

James Butler Son of Anthony & Elizabeth Butler was born on Sunday the 26 of
August 1787  Departed this life June 28th AE. 15--1802

Harriet Butler daughter of Anthony and Elizabeth Butler was born on the 13th
of October anno Domini 1789 in the afternoon.

John Mifflin Butler Son of Anthony & Elizabeth Butler was born on the first day
of February A.D. 1792 between one & two OClock in the morning.

Thomas Willson Butler Son of Anthony and Elizabeth Butler was born on the
Thirteenth Day of March 1793 about Twelve OClock at Noon.

Elizabeth Butler Daughter of Anthony and Elizabeth Butler was born on the
14th of April anno Domini 1797 at one OClock in the afternoon  Departed this
life August th 1825

Jonathan Williams Butler was born on Sunday the 22d day of march A.D. 1801
at half after 11 o'clock at night.

Sarah Coats daughter of William and Margaret Coats was married to Samson
Levy on the 5th day Sept. 1793.

Margaret Maria Levy duaughter of Samson and Sarah C. Levy. Born the first
Day of August Ano - domini 1794 at twenty minutes past six oClock in the
morning.

Richard W. Meade departed this life June th 25th at 5 noon [sic] in 1828--

Samson Levy Departed this life --Decemer th15= 1831--at 5 O'clock at
noon--[sic]

John Smith, son of Elinor Smith was born on the 8th of May ion the year of our
Lord 1777--in the Morning at the House of Coll. William Coats--in the
Northern liberties.

This Bible bequeathed by Sarah Coats Levy to Elizabeth Mary, wife of Alfred
Ingraham, third Daughter of Richard W, and Margaret Coats Meade, and great
Grand daughter of William & Margaret Coats.--

John Smith son of Elinor Smith born in the House of William Coats in [badly
discolored and rubbed] Northern Liberties May the 8th 1777.

William Coats Departed this life 28th April 1802

Elizabeth Butler Departed this life February 5th 1824.

Margaret Coats Departed this life January 15th 1828
