Hendrick Rutgers Family Bible

Contains the records of Hendrick Rutgers and Catharina De Peyster, his wife,
with their children.  The Bible has descended through eight generations to the
present owner, Mrs. Mary Crosby Brown, of Woodmere, N. Y. The records are
in Dutch and have been translated by Dr. L. Bendikson.

Translation

New York, June the 9th Anno 1732. I, Hedrick Rutgers have been married to
Catharina De Peyster by my uncle the Reverend Petrus Vas, minister at
Kingston in Esopus.  May the Lord give him blessing thereunto. Amen.

1732: Oct. 2, born on sunday about 11 o'clock in the morning our firtst
daughter Catharina and baptized in the New Church on sunday the 8th inst.
by Domine Gualtherus Du Bois, as godfather Harmanus Rutgers, and as
godmother Catharina Rutgers.

1734: Dec. 28, born on Saturday about 9 o'clock in the morning our first son
Johannis; baptized in the New Church on New Year's Day by Domine
Hendrickus Boel, as godfather brother Wellem De Peyster and as godmother
Anna De Peyster.

1736: Dec. 30, born on Thursday evening, about 11 o'clock our second
daughter Anna, and baptized in the New Church on Sunday. Jan. the 9th
1736/7, by Domine Hendrickus Boel; as godfather brother Abraham Boelen
and as godmother sister Elizabeth Boelen.

1738: Oct. 14, born on Saturday evening about 11 o'clock our second son
Harmanus and baptized on Sunday the 22d inst. in the New Church by Domine
Gualtherus Du Bois; as godfather brother Harmanus Rutgers and as
godmother sister Elsie Marshall.

1739: August 8, died in the Lord our second son Harmanus. May the Lord
grant him a blesses resurrection. Amen.

1741/2: January 5, born on Tuesday evening about 8 o'clock our third
daughter Elizabeth and baptized in the New Church by Domine Henricus Boel;
as godfather brother Harmanus Rutgers and as godmother sister Elizabeth
Rutgers.

1742: May 24, died in the Lord our first son Johannis, on Monday about 3
o'clock in the afternoon.  May the Lord grant him a blessed resurrection. Amen.

1743: Nov. 19, born on Saturday evening about 7 o'clock, our third son
Harman and baptized in the New Church on Sunday the 27th inst. by D... as
godfather Father Harmanis Rutger and as godmother sister Eva Provoost.

1745: Oct. 7, born on Monday evening about 9 o'clock our fourth son Hendrick
and baptized in the New Church on Sunday the 20th inst. by Domine Johannis
Ritsma; as godfather brother John Marshall and as godmother sister Catherina
van Horn.

1746: April 22, died in the Lord our son Harman on Tuesday about 12 o'clock
at noon.  May the Lord grant him a blessed resurrection.  Amen.

1747: October ye 26th, born on Monday between 6 and 7 o'clock in the
afternoon, our Maria; baptized by Domine Ritsma, as godfather John Prevoost
and as godmother our daughter Catharena Rutgers.

1749: September ye 12th, born on Tuesday at 3 o'clock in the morning our son
Hamanes; baptized by Domine Deuboos; as godfather Wellem Bedlow and as
godmother our daughter Catherena Rutgers, housewife of Wellem Bedlow.

Maria baptized Nov. 1st, 1747.
