Obituary Notice in the Philadelphia Mercury Perth Amboy Sept. 19. 1732. On the 6th instant and in the 71st year of his age, Doctor John Johnstone, very much lamented by all who knew him, and to the inexpressible loss of the Poor who were always his particular care. Notes. 7 Andrew Johnstone married Catharine daughter of Stephanus Van Cortlandt. 9. Jennet Johnstone married John Parker Sept. 16 1721 12. Lewis Johnstone an Eminent Physician married Heathcote he died in 1773. (From a paper said to be in the handwriting of Ursula Parker in the possession of Gertrude Parker.) My father dyed June the 30, in the year one thousand seven hundred and seventeen on a Saturday at 10 o'clock of the night. He was a good Father, a kind master, and a sincere Christian. He gave convincing proofs in his last Illness, by his patience and Resignation to the will of his Maker. He easily parted with everything but his Children, and in that particular, nature got the better as we had reason to think. His last hours was employed in petition for our good in this world, and the happiness in the next, He bid us depend on God, for all our Wants, as he had done, and need not fear being provided for - and pray God I may follow this advice and never forget the words of a dying Father. The name of her Father is not mentioned. It was Elisha Parker (no doubt) who purchased the lot on which the Homestead of the Family Stands in 1715 his son John Parker purchased the Garden lot in 1718 the year after his fathers death. (From a paper said to be in the handwriting of Ursula Parker in the possession of Gertrude Parker.) My brother Elisha Parker was taken ill of "Pleurisai" on a Frdiay the Seventh of April, and died the sixteenth at four o'clock in the afternoon, on a Sunday, in the year One thousand Seven hundred and twenty Seven. He was in the twenty-third year of his Age, and was very willing to dye. In his sickness he armed himself with Resolution, and willingly resigned his Soul to God, he put his trust in him, and pleaded his Saviours merits, for a pardon of all his sins and acceptance with God; he was patient under greatest pain, and did not let it make him forget his God, he willingly renounced the World, for his desire was fixed on heaven which made him choose death rather than life. He had all his Sense all the time of his sickness, till the day he died. "Grant O my God that I may make a right use of this affliction, and learn from this, not to set an immoderate value on anything here but live as if every day was my last, never let me want thy Assistance to conquer myself, in this, and everything else, that is against thy positive Command."
