Yeager Lewistown, Jan. 14. - The funeral services for the Rev. Dr. James Martin Yeager will be held from the residence, 101 Shaw avenue, tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. Dr. A. Lawrence Miller, of the First Methodist Church, assisted by the Rev. Carl Simon, of the St. John's Lutheran Church, the Rev. Henry J. Kiessel, of the Yeagerstown Methodist Church. The services at the residence will be followed by further services at the First Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Mt. Rock Cemetery. Doctor Yeager died Sunday night after an illness of less than a week caused by a slight stroke. He is survived by his widow, whose maiden name was Emma MacElroy, a son J. Creighton Yeager, of Brooklyn, N. Y.; and a daughter, Mrs. A. A. (Marion) Bowie, of New York city; a brother, J. Orin Yeager, of Yeagertown; a half-sister, Mrs. Charles Rice, of Reedsville, and a half-brother, Dr. C. H. Brisbin, of North Main street. He was a traveler in many lands that included Palestine and many countries of South America, being one of the first travelers from Pennsylvania to cross the Andes by horseback. He at one time interviewed the president of Peru. He was a writer of note and gave valuable service in the compilation of the book "Old Pennsylvania Families." his forefathers having settled in Mifflin County before the Revolutionary War. Doctor Yeager was educated in the public schools, the Kishacoquillas Seminary, Dickinson Seminary, Wesleyan University, and Syracuse University. He held pastorates in New York and Massachusetts and was president of Drew Seminary for Young Women at Carmel, N. Y., for three years. In 1906 he was elected to the Pennsylvania State Legislature from Mifflin County. In 1907 he was appointed United States marshall for the middle district of Pennsylvania by President Roosevelt and re-appointed in 1911 by President Taft. During the World War he was employed by the Ordnance Department to address industrial workers in plants all over the East. He was a member of the Sons of the Revolution, Society of War of 1812; City Club of Philadelphia, the Harrisburg Club, Alpha Delta Phi club of New York; F. & A. M. of Lewistown; Harrisburg Consistory; American Academy of Political and Social Science and a score of other clubs that includes the Kiwanis Club of Lewistown.
