Mosher died Oct 22 1951 Insertions [newspaper article] Deaths In Memoriam At a meeting of the Consistory of the First Reformed Church of Bethlehem, N. Y., the following resolutions were adopted: Whereas God in His infinite wisdom has seen fit to call home our senior member, Elder Charles Whitbeck, whose faithful service as a member of this Consistory for many years has left its noble impress upon the minds and hearts of all who knew him. And though we deeply mourn his departure, yet we have comfort in the belief that he who so cheerfully and faithfully labored with us in this service of the Lord has now found that rest and peace which Christ alone can give. Therefore be it Resolved, that we extend to the bereaved family our earnest sympathy in this their time of sorrow, and Resolved, that a copy of these expressions of regard of Elder Whitbeck be sent to the family, that they be published in The Christian Intelligencer and Mission Field, and be spread upon the Consistory records. Royal A. Stanton, President, William J. Hotaling, Clerk. [Article from the Christian Intelligencer] Death of a Delegate to General Synod During the recent session of General Synod at Asbury Park the delegates were grieved to learn that one of the delegates, Elder Charles Whitbeck, of the Bethlehem, N. Y., Church, had fallen, probably over some obstruction while returning to his hotel from the Friday session, and painfully injured himself. His discomfort was so great that he was taken to a nearby hospital, from which it was reported that the fall had caused the fracture of one arm and a serious strain in the other. It was not anticipated that any serious consequences would follow, but Synod directed that Mr. Whitbeck's pastor should remain after the close of Synod until all danger was passed. It appears that Mr. Whitbeck made progress toward recovery slowly for two weeks but pneumonia set in, and he died on June 24th, three weeks after his fall. The body was taken to his home, and the funeral was held in the Bethlehem Church on Sunday, June 26th. Nearly six hundred people assembled to show their regard for Mr. Whitbeck. The pastor, Rev. Royal A. Stanton, delivered the address, and Rev. George G. Seibert, of Delmar, brought the sympathy of Classis and offered the closing prayer. |
