Eri Gilman Family Bible
Holy Bible in English; Auburn, Alden Beardsley & Co., 1852.

This Bible is from Eri W. Gilman, son of Ezekile and Nancy Gilman. Eri was
likely born in London, Ontario Canada. His parent likely born in Vermont. Eri
married Martha Smith in Michigan. Eri and his brother Hiram are buried in the
Riverside Cemetery in Saugatuck, Allegan County, Michigan, as are their wives
and a number of their offspring. Thanks to Chris Yoder, many of the

statement of my case I was taken sick A bout the 1 of february last year I
had to quit work I called A doctor who treated me although I was very sick I
got[?] better so I was up & able to go over tanin[?] but didn't git mill after
doctoring in that way 3 months I got wahther[?] there I went to _land[?] &
saw dr vandenburg & he treated me 2 wks & I got worse all the tim then I
called an doctor rosa[?] who keeps A drug stor on brant st in the strang block
he commenced treating me A bout July the 1 & I stil ___ wors A bout the 4 I
was very bad so they pronounced my cas as hopeless so my wife telephoned
for the childrento come hom they al came home July the 5  doctor Ross[?]
called in doctor St Clair he said my case was hopeless he could so no help for
me but doctor rosa & my wife stuck to me doctor rosa said as long as there
was life there was hope & he wouldn't give up he stil keep treating me about
July the 8 I camnrd[?] to it mend A little & I am still improving I am able to
be up now & walk 3 or 4 blocks at A tim

A Pioneer is Dead
Martha Gilman Succumbs at Home of Her Son Here.
After a long illness Mrs. Martha Gilman, widow of Era Gilman, died at the
home of her son, Ezra D. Gilman, 507 Fifth avenue, last night, at the age of
76 years.  Mrs. Gilman was a pioneer of Grand Rapids, having lived here for
upwards of 40 years. Surviving here are five sons, Ezra D., Edgar and Irving of
this city, and C. Eugene of Chicago and William of Saugatuck.
Funeral SErvices will be held at Saugatuck Wednesday and the body will be
laid besides the remains of her husband in the family cemetery plot there.  
Six grandsons of the deceased will act as pallbearers.

Ingell - Mrs. Mathilda M. Ingell, aged 74, died suddenly at her home, 2229
Buchanan-av., S. W. Friday afternoon. She had been a resident of this city 45
years. She leaves two sons, William C. and Harry C.; a daughter, Miss
Winifred C. Ingell of Grand Rapids, and five brothers, Irving A. and Ezra
Gilman of Grand Rapids, William of Saugatuck, Eugene of Chicago and Edgar
of White Cloud.  Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 1:30 in the
Berton A. Spring Chapel. Interment in the family lot in Greenwood cemetery.

He is survived by his widow, one daughter, Winifred; two sons, William and
Harry; also four grandchildren. Funeral Announcement later.

Irving Gilman Taken at 81
Irving A. Gilman of 212 Shelby St., SW., died Saturday at the home of his son
after a lingering illness. He was 81 years old.
He was born in Douglas and had been a resident of Grand Rapids for 60 years.
 He was a life member of the IOOF, Lodge 12.
Surviving are three sons, Otis, Harold and Judson; a brother, Eugene; five
grandchildren and on great grandchild.
Services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock in the Sullivan Chapel.
Burial will be in Oakhill Cemetery.

Gilman - Irving A. Gilman, aged 81, of 212 Shelby St., SW., passed away
Saturday morning. Surviving are three sons, Otis Gilman of Grand Rapids,
Harold of Muskegon and Judson of Flint; a brother Eugene Gilman of Chicago,
Ill.; five grandchildren and on great-grandchild.  Mr. gilman was taken to the
Sullivan Funeral Home where seervices will be held Tuesday afternoon at 3
o'clock. REv. William chapman officiating. Graveside services at Oak Hill
Cemetery, under auspices of IOOF Grand Rapids Lodge No. 12.

Tyrone Township Man Passes While Dressing
Grant - Homer A. Ingell, 78, died at his home in Tyrone township, southeast
of here, Friday morning. He was stricken while dressing. Mr. Ingell came here
in 1913 from Minnesota.
Surviving are the widow, Margena; two sons, Raymond and Ronald, and a
daughter, Elwin, all at home.
The body will lie in state from 1 to 2 Sunday at the Wesleyan Methodist
church, Grant, with funeral services at 2.  Burial will be in the Chubbach
cemetery.

Miss McNutt Becomes Bride of Mr. Ingell, Jr.
Miss Geraldine J. McNutt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George H. McNutt, Fuller
ave., SE., and Harry A. Ingell of Muskegon, were married at 8 o'clock
Wednesday in the home of the bride's parents. The Rev. LeRoy T. Robinson of
Muskegon, formerly of this city, performed the ceremony, which were
witnessed by only the immediate families.
Palms, ferns and chrysanthemums decorated the rooms.  Mrs. J. E. Behler at
the piano played the traditional marches.
The teal blue gown of the bride was fashioned along princess lines with a full
gored skirt and a bodice trimmed with bands of velvet ribbon ending in tiny
bows.  She wore a corsage of gardenias. Her father gave her in marriage.
The bride's only attendant, Miss Alayne Griener, wore a similar dubonnet
gown, and her =corsage was of Ophelia roses and swainsona.  Donald Ingell,
brother of the groom, assisted him as best man.
Following the ceremony a buffet lunch was served, with Miss Betty Barney and
Miss Irene Krause assisting.
The couple left for a wedding trip through northern Michigan, the bride
completing her costume with a dubonnet coat and accessories. Mr. and Mrs.
Ingell will be at home after Nov. 10 in Port Huron.
Out-of-town guests included Messrs. and Mesdames Mr. and Mrs. R. O. McNutt
of Stanton, Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Sage of Lansing, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wychoff of
St. Johns, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Ingells and Miss Virginia Ingell of Muskegon and
Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Elhart of Zeeland.

Geraldine J. McNutt And Port Huron Man To Wed October 26
Mr. and Mrs. George H. McNutt, Fuller ave., SE., announce the approaching
marriage of their daughter, Geraldine Janet, to Harry A. Ingell, Jr., of Port
Huron, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry A. Ingell of Muskegon.
The marriage will take place on Oct. 26, the date of the 28th wedding
anniversary of the bride-elect's parents.  The ceremony will be performed in
the McNutt home with the Rev. LeRoy T. Robinson of Muskegon, and formerly
of Grand Rapids, officiating.
Miss Alayne Griener will attend Miss McNutt as maid of honor and Donald C.
Ingell will assist his brother as best man.
A reception will be held in the home of the bride-elect's parents following the
marriage service.

Mrs. W. C. Ingell Taken by Death
Mrs. Ida May Ingell, 55, wife of William C. Ingell, city sealer of weights and
measures, died Monday afternoon in Blodgett hospital, where she was taken
after being stricken with a cerebral hemorrhage while she was having
luncheon with a friend in a downtown hotel.
Mrs. Ingell, who lived at 610 Lafayette-av., S.E., came to Grand Rapids 35
years ago from Canada, where she was born.  She was a member of the
Women's City club and was active in guild work of Grace Episcopal church.
Besides her husband she is survived by four brothers, Albert Currier of Salina,
Kan., Frank of Long Beach, Calif., Curt Anderson of Washington and Archie of
McPherson, Kan.; two sisters, Mrs. Jeanette Freeman of Salina, Kan., and Mrs.
Ellen Lee of Chicago.
The body is in Berton A. Spring & Sons mortuary, where funeral services will
be held Thursday at 2 p.m., Rev. Donald V. Carey officiating.  Committal will
be in Graceland mausoleum.

Holland, Feb. 17.-William E. Gilman died Monday at Saugatuck. Surviving are
two sons, Roy and Ralph of Grand Rapids; six grandchildren, and four
brothers, Ezra of Grand Rapids, Eugene of Chicago and Edgar and Irving of
Fennville. funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at Saugatuck,
with burial in Riverside cemetery.

Mrs. C. R. Gilman, ill 2 Years, Dies
Mrs. Madeline Parish Gilman, lifelong resident of Grand Rapids, died Monday
afternoon at her home, 306 Grant st., SW., after an illness of two years. She
was 53 years old.
She was a member of Second Baptist church. Surviving are her husband, C.
Roy Gilman; two daughters, Catherine and ruth, at home; three sons,
Specialist Third Class Charles, now stationed in the Hawaiian islands;
Sergeant Robert, with the army in the Philipines, and Russell, at home; a
grandson; her father, Edwin Parish, and one brother, Walter Parish, both of
Grand Rapids.
Mrs. Gilman will be taken from the Metcalf mortuary at 6 p.m. Thursday to
Second Baptist church, where services will be held at 8 p.m., the Rev. Robert
Dice officiating. Burial will be as Saugatuck Friday morning.

Long Illness Is Fatal To Madeline P. Gilman
Funeral services for Mrs. Madeline Parish Gilman, 53, will be held at 8 p.m.
Thursday at Second Baptist church.  Burial will be at Saugatuck Friday morning.

Mrs. Gilman, lifelong resident of Grand Rapids, died Monday at her residence,
306 Grant-st., S.W., after an illness of two yeras. Surviving besides the
husband, C. Roy Gilman, are two daughters, Catherine and Ruth, both at
home; three sons, Charles, specialist third class in the coast guard, now
stationed at Grand Haven; Sgt. Robert, with the army in the Philipines, and
Russell, at home; one grandson; her father, Edwin Parish, and a brother,
Walter, both of Grand Rapids.
The body is at the Metcalf mortuary, where it will remain until 6 p.m.
Thursday.

Ingell Is Made Weights Chief, Moll Assistant
City Manager C. Sophus Johnson Tuesday announced the appointment of
William C. Ingell, assistant sealer of weights and measures, to the position
of sealer of weights and measures.  Ingell, who has been assistant for nine
years, succeeds the late William Geldersma.
Peter H. Moll, member of the city board of education and a local A. F. of L.
official, was named assistant sealer. The position of sealer pays $2,500 and
that of assistant $1,980.  Moll will sever his official labor connections,
Johnson said.

Lifelong Saugatuck Resident Dies at 76
Saugatuck - Mrs. Mary E. Gilman, 76, lifelong resident of this community, died
Tuesday night at the home of a son, Ralph, in Grand Rapids after a brief
illness.
She is survived by another son, Roy, of Grand Rapids; two sisters, Mrs.
Florence Crocker of Mishawaka, Ind., and Mrs. Charles Proper of St. Cloud,
Fla.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 2 Friday at the McDonald chapel, with burial in
Saugatuck cemetery.
