Colonel Augustine Claiborne (1721-1787)

Holy Bible in English; Birmingham, John Baskerville, 1772.

Contains the records of Col. Augustine Claiborne and his wife Mary Herbert, of
"Windsor," Sussex County, Virginia.  It belonged to his son Herbert and has
descended to the present owner, Herbert Augustine Claiborne, who is fifth in
descent from Col. Claiborne.

I William Burnet Browne (farther of Mary B. Claiborne) was born at Salem in
New England October 7th 1738 and departed this life May 6th 1784 at his
Seat in King William Virginia he married Judith the Daughter of Charles Carter
of Clive in Virginia - And left three daughters Viz Mary Burnet Elizabeth Carter
& Judith Walker

Augustine Claiborne (father of Herbert Claiborne) was born in King Wm
County at Sweet Hall - He married Mary Herbert daughter of Butler Herbert of
Puddledock Near Petersburg - And departed this life on the 3d day of May
1787.  At his Seat Windsor in Sussex County - And had by his Wife Mary,
thirteen Children - Eight Sons, and five Daughters - Viz Mary1 - Herbert2
-Augustine3 - Ann4 - Suckey5 - William6 - Butler7 - Elizabeth8 - Lucy
Herbert6 - John Herbert10 - Thomas11 - Richard Cook12 and Bathurst13. Mr's
Mary Claiborne Mother to Herbert Claiborne depart this life at Windsor
on...day of

I Mrs Judithe Browne (Mother to Mary B Claiborne) departed this Life at Elsing
Green the 2d day of December 1801

Betty C. B. Claiborne daughter of H. and Mary Claiborne, departed this life
August 23, 1845. in the 46th year of her age.

Milly Ann Watson [some words erased] Third daughter of Wm F. and M. A.
Watson was born on the 21st day of November A.D. eighteen hundred and
forty two. 1842 in the city of Richmond Va and baptized by the Rev. Wm
Norwood of the Episcopal Church on the day of her mothers death, and the
tenth from her birth.

Herbert Claiborne Eldest Son of (Augustine & Mary Claiborne of Windsor) was
born on Monday the 7th of April 1746

Mary Burnett Browne (Eldest Daughter of William Burnett & Judith Browne of
Elsing Green) was born the 7th of August 1765

The above Herbert & Mary Burnet was Married the 17th Feby 1781 - By the
Rev'd Henry Shyring

1 William Burnet Browne the first Son of Herbert & Mary Burnett was born the
19th day of December 1782 - ay Elsing Green.  12 Oclock at Night  Baptised
at Chestnut Grove by Henry Shyring

2 Herbert Augustine Claiborne the Second Son of Herbert & Mary Burnet was
born the 5 day of March 1784 - at Chestnut Grove - 10 Oclock in the Morning  
Baptised by Mr Shyring

3 Mary Carter Burnet the first Daughter of Herbert & Mary was born the 20th
day of August 1786 - at 3 Oclock in the morning.  Newkent Court House -
Baptised by the Rev'd James Sample.  Obit. August 2".1864

4 William third Son of Herbert & Mary was born the 31st day f March 1787 at
half after 4 Oclock in Morning at Newkent court House - Baptised by the Rev'd
James Sample.

5 Judith Browne Clairborne Second daughter of Herbert & Mary was born the
7th of March 1789 at half after 3 Oclock in the Morning at Newkent Court
House - Baptised at St Peters Church in Newkent by the Rev'd Benjamin
Blackgrove

6 Lavinia Herbert the third daughter of Herbert & Mary was born the 23d of
August 1790 - at 2 Oclock in the morning. at Wm Armsteads in Newkent  
Baptised by the Rev'd Price Davis.  She departed this life on the 30th day of
March 1792. and buried at Elsing Green near her Grand father

7 Harriot Herbert the fourth Daughter of Herbert & Mary was born the 16th of
January 1793 at Eight Oclock in the Morning at Elsing Green  Baptised by the
Rev'd Mr Price - God fathers the Rev'd Mr Price & Wm Burnet Browne - God
Mothers Mrs J. Browne & Polly Nuffin Claiborne

8 Lavinia Bathurs fifth daughter of Herbert & Mary was born the 19th of
January 1795 at 10 Oclock in the Morning at Elsing Green Baptis'd by the
Rev'd Mr Price God fathers Cap't William Reding of Salem N. England - and
Wm Burnet Browne God Mother Mrs Browne.

9 Betty Carter Bafsett Sixth Daughter of Herbert & Mary was born the 10th of
January 1799 at 7 Oclock in the Morning at Elsing Green Baptisd by Rev'd
James Price.  God-fathers John Bafsett, Wm Thomson, Capt. King.  God
Mothers - Betsy Bafsett & Mrs Browne - and Mary Carter Burnet.

10 Augusta Brown the Seventh daughter of Herbert & Mary was born the 23rd
day of June 1800 - at two Oclock in the Morning at Elsing Green Baptisd by
the Rev'd James Price.  God Fathers Herbert Augustine Claiborne - Wm
Claiborne and Wm Bafsett.  God Mothers Mary Carter Burnet Claiborne Judey
B Claiborne & Virginia Bafsett

11 Octavia the Eaigth Daughter of Herbert & Mary was born the 12th day of
Feby 1802 at three Oclock in the Morning at E Green Baptisd by James Price.  
She departed this Life, July 23d 1802 and buried at E Green by her sister

Mary B Claiborne the Mother of the above Children Departed this life at E
Green on Wednesday the 16th day of January 1805.  Age 39 y

Herbert Claiborne (her husband) son of Coln Augustine - died August 1814 at
the Cottage, King William County.

Herbert Claiborne Thomson, Eldest son of William and Mary H. Thomson was
born July 16. 1794
